Army of 2 at Trax in Austintown
Friday night I got the chance to check out one of the great local acoustic, cover acts at Trax in Austintown. Unfortunately, I only got a chance to check out their first set. But from what I saw, these two icons have not lost any momentum in all the years that they have been around the scene. Leanne Binder of course is known for the multitude of different bands she has fronted as well as her solo project, Binder; and Matt Muckle is known for his work with the Pittsburgh based band 7th House, as well as local Youngstown band gone big, SinOmatic, as well as national act Buckcherry. Muckle also currently drums for Akron based band, Red Sun Rising. The duo did a set full of well known classic rock covers, kicking things of with "Tequila Sunrise" by the Eagles. While a lot of people may get burnt out by hearing classic rock cover bands, redoing the same old 60's and 70's rock songs over and over again, Army of 2 is not your typical classic rock cover band. Binder's trademark bluesy, folksy style comes into these songs truly making them feel original and new again, but it really doesn't stop there, Muckle's distinctive drum style also finds its way into songs like "Ain't No Sunshine," "Brown Eyed Girl," and "Drift Away;" often having the listener asking themselves, "are all those drum fills really necessary?" But the answer to that question will always be "yes." Muckle adds his own flavor to this great, classic songs, adding a drumming technique that is not often heard with acoustic artists. |
